This is a link to a campaign currently been ran by British Heart foundation. The predominant element on the page is this great big dismembered heart. A 3D heart floating in space, revolving and beating. I haven't a clue how it's done, the light and textures look more like photographic media rather than 3D render but the ends of the arteries look like they have been digitally tampered with. At first I thought the moment was created via distortion but now I'm not so sure.

It's fascinating to watch. Bit eerie and is ever so hypnotic with the continuous repetitive movement accompanied by the persistent beating.

This was an Apple commercial featuring Paul McCartney. Think I found it when we started the animation brief. I was impressed by the style, not sure if this effect is retroscoping or not tho. I also like the soft almost comforting properties of the pastel colours which have a good contrast with the black central figure in the video.


Came across this when I was researching for the Digital Cultures brief. I wanted to stylize the design to mimic 50's palio paleofuture designs. Really liked this picture on a personal level because it seems to capture many of the elements I wanted to reproduce. On a bit of a tangent I also got tied up researching all sorts of future technologies during this brief, very interesting stuff and it's amazing what we can already do but many of these creations are prevented from going mainstream due to cost/funding issues.

As for these lot. I've had the Starry Starry night on my computer for a while and cannot remember why now? The reproduction, although the general idea is nothing new I still like the choice of adding the robot from Forbidden Planet. Well clashed!
As for the Room at Arles. This just looks like the room I'm staying in at the moment so I thought I'd add it.

Carrying on with the Flash theme. This was the final piece for my animation brief, I published it online but there is a minor issue with the preloader & the animation starting too soon. The soundtrack is also slightly out of sync with the animation when played online but I couldn't work out how to remedy this.

Right this was the final (still needs some work but final enough to hand in!) I've posted it on my site, I need to add a preloader yet tho. I have centered the content with CSS but the javascript align "center" doesn't work, gonna play a bit more & if I can't fix it then I'll just delete the flash detection!

This was another animation I came across from the weebls site. I love the way the whole piece knits together. The style of animation is similar to what I originally wanted to do for my Fable, it has a retro, art deco feel about it and the music chosen for the piece compliments this. The use of movement is cleaver to the, rapid movement of extremities and very bouncy traveling of the characters compliments the music/style, attracts attention and increases narrative by drawing you in and carrying you along with the story.

I came across this site when researching for the Aesop Brief. The artist/animator has a very good style. It's interesting, individual and funny. I also like the nonsense element to the works.

I also just realised that my animation music runs out of sync with the animation on some computers which is a shame because the drums were happening at the same time as objects appeared when I was making the piece :o(

Evaluation

After producing my first animatic and receiving feedback I decided not to develop the Idea further as I was told it was a bit simple. After thinking about it I decided I didn’t like where it was going either and I also thought the style looked too much like a children’s animation.

The next idea I started to develop was one with less narrative, it was just to be two simple characters interacting with each other. I decided against this idea shortly after starting because I didn’t like the way it looked either.

I originally decided to produce my piece in Flash because I have more interest in the web design side of Digital Media so spending as much time using and developing my flash skills is important to my personal development. I did consider using Maya as it would be interesting however I like the diverse forms of expression and styles available to the 2D animator. Partly because of this and partly inspired by the Animation Unlimited films I moved onto my third route. I already have a sound understanding of Flash and knew in my previous two animation attempts I was not exploiting this. I also wanted to make something with a more personal approach, concentrating more on the creative expression and less on the technicalities of producing an animation.

I thought about styles and artists I admired first, the first things were the Lemony Snicket credits (Todd Hemker) & Tim Burton.

So I came up with a short little story:

Once Upon a time…
There was a hill…
Upon the hill there was a well…
And in the well there did dwell…
A little Troll…
Then one day down it fell…
With an almighty thud the electricity bill…
So his home he had to sell…
The poor old troll he left the well.

I wanted it to have that eerie feeling of wrongness, then went about hand drawing the characters. I was originally going to have the animation narrated but struggled getting the recordings right so used music & sound effects instead. This doesn’t communicate the narrative perfectly but gives the general feel I was aiming for.

I haven’t applied any Squash & Stretch because it didn’t suit this style but I have applied examples of Timing and Motion, Anticipation and Staging throughout the animation. As for the emotional interaction I’ve shown the fear on the Troll by using eye, mouth & arm movements. The bill was going to growl and shake about to be scary but I decided this was unnecessary and used weight & movement to imply dominance.

I’m happy with my final work, there are a few areas where the animation can be improved and the animation is longer then required however as I was using software I already have some experience with rather than learning a new one I thought I should try to produce a more elaborate piece of animation.

The description goes "An explosion of colours and shapes form different shapes and faces". Intended to attract new customers and drive awareness of this revolutionary new product range. Personally I like the the fluid movement of the animation, the vibrant colours & the psycodelic overall feeling of the animation. I also think the music is a good choice (Van She remix of Gravity's Rainbow by The Klaxons) as it seems to compliment the animation style
