Reseller Account Setup
Author: Shaunk...
I have now set up a reseller account. There is a large amount more work involved anticipated.
Designs to make, pricing to decide, packages to create, functionality to offer/withold, payment gateways to set up, control panels, webmail, welcome and admin emails, etc...
They do offer an automated system to sell hosting and domains called Hostpay. This has several template designs (all very ugly) and even more settings to customize. Unfortunatly this product is built with Ruby so looks like I'm going to have to get used to another language before I can do too much customisation.
New to Flash CS4
Author: Shaunk...Stop Dithering About
Author: Shaunk...I had a few problems before when creating Flash animations/games and using imported Photoshop or Illustartor files. I now believe I have fixed the problem. Previous versions applied document level compression algorithms when creating a SWF file therefore incorrectly compressing some of the graphic files. Now object level compression can be applied to image files within the library. So hopefully no more dithering.
Double sales from your brochures, flyers, ads, e-shots and websites
Author: Shaunk...
This seminar yesterday was excellent. The majority of the matter covered was already familiar to me from reading up on effective copywriting, communication and critical studies however I did learn a few new techniques and it was constructive to see a professional talking over existing ads saying specifically where they went wrong & how they could be improved. The seminar was presented by Mike Kingston, who is experienced in the field and talks about the subject with conviction. His arguments were well supported by research and statistics with an appropriate use of chosen advertisements which he also showed them updated.
Overall it was very useful as the seminar was a more general approach to marketing and sales than what I had previously covered. Rather than saying do this, this and this for a specific medium it started off about why people buy things, the underlying reasons which never change and can be applied to all advertisement. I learnt a few new formulas like AIDCA which is similar to the six copywriting steps. In terms of layout he also went over where is best to place the header (the 2nd quarter) and gave some info about attention times and titles/bullets/text.
Print Samples
Author: Shaunk...
I did a call round a couple of weeks back and got some printers to send me a load of samples. I had a sort through them at the moment Solopress is the forerunner in terms of quality, selection and presentation however I haven't had time to go over the prices thoroughly. I need to see if I can negotiate some kind of percentile discount so I can offer printing directly so will crack on with the sweet talking once the MP is finished. Vistaprint so far are the ones to avoid, I got some of the cheap cards last year and they were the wrong colour, I called them this time to get some samples of what they do (as they are a cheap option) and got told they don't do samples. Speaks volumes!
End of Year Show
Author: Shaunk...
These were my initial notes from when we were discussing the end of year show. I can now do quite a bit of user interactivity in flash so with a bit of creativity it would be pretty easy to create some type of installation. I was reading quite a bit about perception and illusion at the time so that was definitely influencing some ideas like the infinite perspective room and the displacement effects. I like the Theremin idea, hooked up to a sound reactive swf could wield som very space age results.
Still current cash flow and time is at an all time low so we'll have to wait and see what happens.

This is the semi-final site structure de post-it. Post-it notes been a very powerful tool when it comes to devising site and page layouts.
