Graffiti Ibiza
Author: Shaunk...
I've been driving around the island quite a bit and have seen some fantastic graffiti. There seems to be more then when I was last here three years ago but there are some really talented artists, the techniques are wide and varied including stencils, abstract, pop art, oldskool, political and full on multi tonal, 3D urbanart.
This pic is half inched from Flickr, I want to get some pics of my own but the majority of the graffiti is next to motorways or in hard to reach places and I'd rather not get run over!
Here is a little trinket of info about the origins of graffiti, it's from wilkipedia tho so I don't take it as gospel.
The first known example of "modern style" graffiti survives in the ancient Greek city of Ephesus (in modern-day Turkey). Local guides say it is an advertisement for prostitution. Located near a mosaic and stone walkway, the graffiti shows a handprint that vaguely resembles a heart, along with a footprint and a number. This is believed to indicate that a brothel was nearby, with the handprint symbolizing payment.
